The History Behind our Award-Winning Hotel in La Jolla
In the late 1940’s, the affluent family named Black purchased a prime parcel of land from the prominent Scripps family in the coastal village of La Jolla. The Blacks soon turned the nearly ten acres into an equestrian estate and training ground for young thoroughbred horses.
Today, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa resides on the same distinguished land of an early California rancho-style setting. A decade in the making, our 210-guest room hotel, world-class spa, and certified conference destination officially opened to guests in the summer of 2004. By May 2005, our San Diego luxury hotel had already achieved the status of one of the “Hottest New Hotels of the World” by Condé Nast Traveler, as well as the coveted “Four-Diamond” rating awarded by AAA.
Conveniently located adjacent to the University of California at San Diego, 14 miles from downtown San Diego, and minutes from celebrated beaches, Torrey Pines Golf Course, and major Southern California attractions, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa is a crown jewel of La Jolla, CA.
Inspired by the rich history of the property, Estancia La Jolla Hotel pays homage to the rancho-style architecture and landscape that was first introduced to Southern California in the 1800’s by Spanish Colonizers. Our hotel in La Jolla carefully blends history with nature, including California’s native gardens, a heated pool and spa, and 22,190 square feet of indoor meeting space, as well as a variety of year-round outdoor venues. The materials, architecture, and furnishings of our La Jolla Hotel elegantly recapture Southern California’s past.
Estancia La Jolla offers a relaxed, serene setting that celebrates the idyllic coastal climate for all who visit – families, business travelers, and groups alike. With the warmth of the past and the comfort of modern, discover Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa.
